Final Results

The Murray State men’s Cross Country squad came home with a third place showing at the UTM event

The Murray State men's Cross Country team competed at the UT Martin OVC Preview Saturday at Graham Park in Union City Tennessee.

Racing at the 8K distance for the first time this fall, the Racers placed fifth with Dylan Ellis coming home with a spot in 22nd place at 26:07, while Gabe Russell's time of 26:17, gave MSU two runners in the top-30. Nick Schmitz placed 35^th at 26:36.

"There's no perfect way to transition a freshman over to the 8k race but Dylan Ellis and Nick Schmitz have handled it incredibly well. Dylan had an amazing last mile to his race which is a testament to his mental fortitude. I had asked Nick to take himself way outside of his comfort zone with his race plan and I appreciate him trusting that processes and trying it. I believe that as he gains experience with the 8K, he, Dylan, and Gabe Russell will be a perfect training group over the next three years. Dan Schalk ran an incredibly tough race. Almost every time I saw him in the second half he had passed another person. I'm excited to have the next two weeks to just focus on training before going to Louisville. We are a strong group but are still working to put some pieces together."
