Defense Shines, Hardy Scores in Racers' First MVC Win

MURRAY, Ky. – The Racers earned their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the 2025 season Sunday in a tightly contested 1-0 result over Southern Illinois at Cutchin Field. The win gave the Racers three conference points, moving their total to six on the season.
Murray State (6-4-4, 1-1-4 MVC) opened the match aggressively, taking 12 shots in the first half. Senior Mary Hardy capitalized in the 42nd minute, finishing a cross from Natalie Miller to give the Racers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, the eventual lone goal in the match.
The attack stayed active in the second half, as Murray State added nine more shots to finish with 21, marking the sixth game this season with at least 20 shot attempts.
"Today was a massive three points against a very, very good team," head coach Matt Lodge said. "There's a reason SIU is at or near the top of the table. This league is very tight. I think any points you can take, you have to take them."
Five different Racers recorded multiple shots, with Hardy leading the team with five. Breece Bass, Sydney Etter and Katie Donoghue each added three.
On the other side of the field, the Racers' defense continued its strong stretch. Goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio made eight saves to secure her fourth shutout of the season and the team's sixth overall. The clean sheet was also the second in as many matches.
"I think it's something our staff has done a really good job of in the recruiting process," Lodge said. "Not only are freshmen giving us minutes, but we've developed our sophomores, juniors and seniors into players that really make a difference."
Ava Roberson, Abbey MacDonald and Sami Wilson all contributed off the bench, each recording a shot and helping preserve the Racers' lead.
Murray State will look to carry momentum into its final home match of the regular season, set for Sunday, Oct. 19, against Evansville.
