Longtime rivals Murray State and Austin Peay met head to head in Clarksville

The Murray State women's golf team won the Battle of the Border Match Play showdown Sunday over the Austin Peay Governors in Clarksville, Tenn.

The Racers took the head-to-head event 6.5 to 5.5 at Clarksville Country Club.

There were two forms of competition as the day began with alternate shot pairs in which the Racers won all four matches to take a 4-0 lead in a competition where there were 12 possible points.

MSU won only two of the eight singles matches, but that was enough when Ella Scherer defeated APSU's Ella Arnzen 5 & 4 and Tina Von Arx won her match by the same score over Abby Hirtsel.

Next up for the Racers is their fall season finale (Oct. 31-Nov. 2) at The Robbie, played at Hampton Cove Golf Club in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
