Six-figure gift secures naming right for future softball press box at Racer Field
Murray State Athletics has received a generous $500,000 cash gift from Sandra Hartmann that will have a significant impact on the modernization and growth of the softball complex, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The gift secured the naming right for the Sandra Hartmann Press Box, which will transform the profile of Racer Field.
"This monumental gift will have a profound impact on the footprint of our softball program and our athletics footprint as a whole," Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "Sandra has been a tremendous supporter of Murray State for many years, and we are thrilled for what this gift will do to better the softball team."
Hartmann is a 1975 graduate of Murray State University with a degree in geography. She used her educational experience at Murray State to enjoy a successful career, which resulted in her recently retiring as Senior Payroll Administrator at Colgate-Palmolive Co.
"Sandra has been a proud supporter of our women's sports programs for a long time, and this generous gift cements her legacy with the naming of our new softball press box," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "We are continuing to pour championship resources into our student-athletes thanks to incredible individuals such as Sandra, and we are looking forward to this project being completed in recognition of her commitment to our shared vision for excellence."
Other investments into the softball program have included Alston Academic Incentive, Cost of Attendance and revenue share money for student-athletes, the new indoor hitting facility in Roy Stewart Stadium, updates to the weight room and training room, and more.
Hartmann's generous investment towards this project, and her longtime support of Murray State women's sports, provides current and future student-athletes opportunities and experiences that were not available to her when she was growing up.
"We are beyond grateful for the generous gift from Sandra and her continued support of women's athletics at Murray State," head softball coach Kara Amundson said. "Our alumni, current players and recruits will all be able to benefit from the upgrades to Racer Field that Sandra's gift will help provide. As an alumna herself, Sandra understands the pride we take in calling Murray State home. We are thankful for her and are looking forward to this continued partnership with Sandra, Racer Softball, and women's athletics as a whole."
The Racer Club plays a crucial role in helping support student-athlete scholarships, general operating budget, and facility enhancements. Investors play a critical role in funding the student-athlete experience and the competitive success of Murray State Athletics programs and student-athletes.
