Murray, Ky. – The Murray State soccer team's 2025 campaign came to a close in the semifinal round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, falling to UIC 4-3 in penalty kicks.
MVC Player of the Year Mary Hardy gave the Racers (10-4-5) an early lead, scoring her sixth goal of the season and the 26th of her career. Sydney Etter logged the assist, earning the 32nd point of her career.
In an evenly matched first half, each team recorded five shots, and the Racers entered halftime ahead 1-0.
UIC tied the match in the 86th minute with a penalty kick.
After two scoreless overtime periods, the Racers and Flames (8-7-5) entered penalty kicks, with UIC converting four and MSU finishing with three.
Murray State took 22 shots as a team, putting eight on target, with eight different players recording multiple shots.
"I'm still so proud of this group," head coach Matt Lodge said. "From starting conference play 0-1-3 to being a two seed and hosting a semifinal. We finished the year 10-4-5, and that's a great achievement, especially if you look back at the last 12 months... This game aside, I'm over the moon for the group. I feel for our seniors that it ended that way."
Murray State ends the season 10-4-5, highlighted by a late-season surge that included five straight wins and six straight unbeaten to close conference play and secure the No. 2 seed in the MVC Tournament, the program's highest seed since joining the conference in 2022.
