Racers Compete in Final Matches Before NCAA Qualifiers

Murray State Rifle faced TCU, Ole Miss, and Jacksonville State in Oxford, Miss.
Murray State rifle competed in two matches in Oxford, Miss. over the weekend, posting composite scores of 4725 on Saturday and 4719 on Sunday.
Saturday's match featured the Racers against TCU and Ole Miss. Murray State placed second, as TCU took first with a 4740 and Ole Miss posted a 4724. The Racers posted a 2347 in smallbore and a 2378 in air rifle for an aggregate of 4725.
John Blanton was the top shooter for the Navy & Gold, placing second individually, firing an 1187. Blanton placed second in air rifle with a 599 and fourth in smallbore with a 588.
Scott Patterson was the only other Racer to place inside the top ten individually, coming in fifth with an 1183. The senior placed second in smallbore with a 590 and fired a 593 in air rifle.
In the second match of the weekend, Murray State defeated Jacksonville State 4719-4692, and six of the top ten individual performers were Racers.
Zach Jackson (Madison, W. Va./Scott High School) was the top individual performer for Murray State and claimed second overall with an aggregate of 1181. The Madison, W. Va. native was the top shooter in smallbore, firing a 591 and placed eighth in air rifle with a 590.
Freshman Carlotta Salafia claimed the third overall spot with an 1180 aggregate and claimed third in both categories with a 595 in air rifle and a 585 in smallbore. Scott Patterson (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson Secondary School) was a top-five individual performer for the second day in a row, placing fourth with an 1179 aggregate. Patterson placed second in smallbore with a 587 and sixth in air rifle with 592.
Allison Henry rounded out the top five with a season-high aggregate of 1176. The graduate posted season highs in both categories, with a sixth-place 582 in smallbore and a fourth-place 594 in air rifle.
John Blanton places sixth overall with an 1175 aggregate and second in air rifle with a 595. The Brookings, S.D. native fired a 580 in smallbore, good for eighth. Emma Lawrence rounded out the top ten for the Racers, placing eighth individually with an 1170 aggregate. She fired a fifth-place 593 in air rifle and placed tenth in smallbore with a 577.

The Racers are back in action on Saturday, February 22 at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Ky. for NCAA Qualifiers.
