Racers Jump To Front – Wall Leads, Nimmo 3rd at MVC Championship

Des Moines Country Club plays host to The Valley Championship in Iowa
The Murray State men's golf team played two fantastic rounds Monday at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship with a spot in first place as the event heads to Tuesday's final round at Des Moines Country Golf Club in Des Moines, Iowa.
With the tournament pushing Sunday's round into a 36-hole day Monday, the Racers broke from the gate like a fast thoroughbred with a 2-under-par 286 and were five shots behind Illinois State. In the afternoon 18, MSU shaved a pair of shots from the morning and posted a 4-under-par 284. When the Redbirds carded a 290, the Racers had a one-shot lead at 570.
Murray State's Trey Wall is the individual leader with 18 holes to play after a score line of 70-67=137 (7-under) and had a one-shot lead over Belmont's Foster Wood (69-69=138).
Other Racer scores included Jay Nimmo in third place on scores of 66-73=139 and Rocco Zakutney in 13th place on rounds of 74-71=145. Lennon Albans stood in 25th place (76-73=149) and Kamaren Cunningham (78-75=153) was in 39th position.
The Racers have posted showings of fifth and fourth place in their first two runs at the MVC title and now in a spot to do even better Tuesday when the final round begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
