New Marshall Gage Track and upgraded performance facilities provide transformational resources for Racer track & field
Murray State Athletics continues to invest in the future of its track & field and cross country programs with the completion of major facility enhancements at Rudolph Family Field at Roy Stewart Stadium, highlighted by a brand-new, resurfaced navy Marshall Gage Track and significant upgrades within the Draffen Family Performance Center.
Â
The improvements are part of approximately $4 million in recently completed projects throughout Roy Stewart Stadium, reinforcing the department's commitment to providing championship-level resources, enhancing student-athlete development and strengthening the overall experience for current and future Racers.
Â
"The new track surface, coupled with the upgraded strength and conditioning and sports medicine facilities, will provide our track & field student-athletes with championship-level resources to train, compete and excel," Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "These improvements reflect our continued commitment to elevating Racer Athletics, strengthening our ability to attract talented student-athletes and positioning our programs for sustained success."
Â
"These improvements represent a tremendous investment in the future of Murray State track & field and the student-athletes who proudly represent our University," Vice President & Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "The new Marshall Gage Track, combined with the significant enhancements to our strength and conditioning and sports medicine spaces, provides our coaches and student-athletes with the resources necessary to train, develop and pursue championships. We are committed to building a best-in-class experience across all of our programs, and these projects demonstrate our continued commitment to elevating Racer Athletics."
Â
The centerpiece of the improvements for Murray State track & field is the installation of the new navy Marshall Gage Track and throws area. The updated surface provides a refreshed training and competition environment while prominently showcasing Murray State's brand identity.
Â
"The enhancements to both Marshall Gage Track and other facilities here at Murray State have meant the world to our current and future student-athletes," Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Adam Kiesler said. "The administration has made our student-athletes the priority both on and off the track and it means the world to them. Even though we have gotten new and improved facilities, we know the department is not done and that makes it even more exciting."
Â
Beyond the updates to Marshall Gage Track, Murray State track & field student-athletes will benefit from the extensive renovations to the Draffen Family Performance Center, located on Level 1 of Roy Stewart Stadium.
Â
Made possible through the generosity of the Draffen Family, the renovated performance center features a modernized strength and conditioning facility, upgraded equipment, enhanced training spaces and a 40-yard turf run designed for agility and multidirectional movement training.
Â
The project also includes significant upgrades to the athletic training and sports medicine facilities, providing enhanced resources for injury prevention, rehabilitation and recovery. New hot and cold plunges further strengthen the department's ability to support student-athlete wellness and recovery throughout the demanding training and competition calendar.
Â
These improvements also complement the installation of the new videoboard at Rudolph Family Field, which will provide a significant fan experience boost to the program's annual home event that is traditionally held in the spring.
Other investments into the program include revenue share for student-athletes, additional staffing support and other financial resources to boost the student-athlete experience.
