Donor-funded investment continues Murray State Athletics' commitment to boosting softball program
Murray State Athletics continues to invest in the future of Racer Softball with the addition of a donor-funded, state-of-the-art videoboard at Owens Family Field, marking another significant step forward in the department's commitment to making strategic investments into the program.
Â
Measuring 18-feet tall by 33-feet wide and featuring a 10-millimeter pixel pitch, the videoboard will transform the game day environment at Owens Family Field with live video, real-time statistics and engaging content designed to bring Racer Nation closer to the action.
Â
"The addition of this impressive videoboard at Owens Family Field will create an exciting new experience for our fans while providing meaningful benefits for our current and future softball student-athletes," Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "Investments like these reinforce our commitment to providing championship-level resources and positioning our programs for long-term success."
Â
The installation further demonstrates Murray State Athletics' commitment to building upon the momentum of the softball program through strategic facility enhancements that support student-athlete development, competitive excellence and an exceptional game day experience.
Â
"Investments like this are critical to the continued growth and success of our softball program and our commitment to providing a best-in-class experience for our student-athletes and fans," Vice President & Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "The addition of this videoboard will transform the atmosphere at Owens Family Field and strengthen our recruiting efforts as we continue to compete for and win championships."
Â
Owens Family Field will also be receiving newly-branded outfield wall padding, a significant upgrade for the facility.
Â
The facility recently celebrated the naming of Owens Family Field in recognition of the generous support and transformational leadership of Leon Owens and the Owens Family, while the Racers also broke ground on the Sandra Hartmann Press Box at the facility.
Â
The press box will feature a main media area and additional auxiliary space, all of which will be ground level to make Owens Family Field tournament-host ready. Grandstands will be fixed to the top of the facility, providing a spectacular vantage point for fans to enjoy the game.
Â
Other investments into the softball program have included revenue share money for student-athletes, the new indoor hitting facility in Rudolph Family Field at Roy Stewart Stadium, updates to the weight room and training room, and more.
Â
"It's an incredibly exciting time for Murray State Softball, and the continued investment in our program speaks volumes about the commitment to building something special here at Murray State," head coach Kara Amundson said. "The addition of the new videoboard at Owens Family Field is another tremendous step forward for us. We are extremely grateful to Nico Yantko and the athletics administration, Dr. Ron Patterson and the Board of Regents, and everyone who continues to believe in our program and invest in its future."
Â
Murray State Athletics has raised $60 million dollars in support of new facilities, initiatives and championship resources as part of the department's bold, comprehensive $100 million fundraising campaign, Leading The Pack, which was created to further position itself for the future by investing in student-athlete success and wellness, revenue share and competitive resources and world-class facilities.
