Murray State Falls to North Texas and Mississippi State in Starkville

The Murray State Racers (3-4) dropped a pair of games at The Snowman - Alex Wilcox Memorial Tournament at Nusz Park in Starkville, Mississippi, on Friday.

Game One: North Texas 5, Murray State 1

The Racers faced off against North Texas (2-4) in the opening game of the tournament on Friday morning. After a scoreless opening inning, the Mean Green got on the board in the second with a home run by Elizabeth Moffitt to make it 1-0.

After two more deadlocked innings, the Mean Green got on the board again in the fifth with three RBI doubles by three different players, including Moffitt, to increase their lead to 5-0.

The Racers got on the board in the fifth as Kenley Minor slid into home on a play that saw Courtney Sandy get caught stealing. However, they were unable to get on the board again, falling 5-1.

Emily Siurek (0-1) got the start in the circle and took the loss, allowing four earned runs and striking out two. Karlye Graber pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing no runs and putting up three strikeouts.

Offensively for the Racers, Allie Waldron went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles, and Kenley Minor recorded a double and a run scored.

Game Two: No. 21 Mississippi State 9, Murray State 1 (5 Innings)

The Racers faced the host No. 21 Mississippi State (6-0) in their second matchup of the day. Murray State fell behind early as the Bulldogs put up five runs in the first inning and one more in the third to move ahead 6-0.

The Racers got on the board in the top of the fourth as Adison Hicks scored Katy Huels on a single to the warning track to make it 6-1.

The Bulldogs tacked on three more in the fourth, and the Racers could not get on the board in the fifth, making the final score 9-1.

Hailey Brereton got the start in the circle and gave up four earned runs. Bre Haislip and Raylee Roby appeared in relief, giving up two and three earned runs, respectively.

Adison Hicks recorded the lone hit and RBI for the Racers.
