Racers Sweep Belmont to Secure No. 3 Seed in MVC Tournament

MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State women's tennis finished the regular season on a high note Friday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of Belmont at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts. The victory moves the Racers to 9-10 overall and 5-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play as they prepare for the postseason.
The Racers took control early by securing the doubles point with wins at the second and third flights. Yuna Kadowaki and Yu Kikawa posted a dominant 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while the duo of Barbora Hermanova and Arden Dethridge clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot.
Murray State carried that energy into singles play by winning all six matches in straight sets. Yuna Kadowaki was the first to finish at No. 2, followed quickly by Yu Kikawa at No. 3 and Sofia Issakova at No. 4. Rebecca Widan added a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position, and Valeria Chaikovskaia earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the top flight. Bruna Melato completed the perfect afternoon for the Racers with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
With the regular season complete, the Racers have earned the No. 3 seed for the upcoming MVC Tournament. Murray State is now scheduled for a quick rematch against the Bruins in the opening round of the conference championships.
