MURRAY, Ky. – Valeria Chaikovskaia has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Co-Player of the Year, leading a pair of Murray State honors as the league announced its postseason awards. Chaikovskaia earned a spot on the All-MVC First Team at the number one singles position, while teammate Rebecca Widan joined her on the First Team at the number six spot.
Chaikovskaia posted a six-one record at the top singles flight during conference play this season. This marks the second consecutive year the Racer standout has been recognized by the MVC, having earned Second Team honors a season ago.
The Junior was also selected to represent the MVC in the ITA Masters Championships in San Diego (NCAA Individual Qualifier) back in November.
Widan secured her First Team selection following a six-one mark in conference action at the number six position. The sophomore finished the season with an 11-5 overall record, marking the first all-conference award of her career with the Racers.
Widan is also in just her third semester in Murray, having joined the Racers last spring.
The Racers will begin MVC Tournament action tomorrow as they take on Belmont in round one in Chicago.
