Despite Close Sets, Murray State Swept by Eastern Michigan

Murray State was swept 3-0 by Eastern Michigan on Saturday in its final match of the USI Invitational at Liberty Arena.
The Navy and Gold started the match strong, as they led the Eagles 18-17 behind four kills from senior Lily Burnett. However, Eastern Michigan stormed back and took eight of the next 12 points to win the set 23-25.Â
The Racers fell behind early in the second set despite four kills from freshman Maezi Snyder, who finished the weekend with 15 kills. Murray State mounted a late comeback but ultimately dropped the set 25-21.
Murray State once again got off to a hot start in the third set, taking a 4-0 lead behind a service ace from setter Paige Brock. The senior, Brock, led the Racers with three aces in the match. Eastern Michigan responded with six consecutive points and eventually closed out the sweep with another 25-21 victory.
Murray State returns to action Sept. 4 at the NIU Invitational in DeKalb, Ill. The Racers will open the tournament with a rematch against host Northern Illinois on Friday before facing Lindenwood and Portland State on Saturday.
