Racers Fall in Opening Match of Trojan Classic

Murray State fell to Troy in straight sets Thursday night at Trojan Arena, dropping the opening match of the Trojan Classic 25-18, 25-19, 25-18.
The Racers (1-9) battled with the Trojans early in the opening set, holding a 17-16 lead before Troy closed the frame on a 9-1 run to take the early advantage. Murray State continued to battle in the second but was unable to overcome the Trojans, falling 25-19 to go down two sets.
Mija Pristovnik led the Racers with a career-high 10 kills while committing just one attack error on 20 swings for a team-best .450 hitting percentage. Freshman Maezi Snyder added eight kills and hit .333, marking her fourth straight match hitting .250 or better.
Murray State put together its best offensive set of the night in the third, recording 11 kills and just three attack errors to hit .258. The Racers stayed within six at 21-15 before Troy closed out the set and match, 25-18.
The Racers finished the night with 30 kills while hitting .169 as a team. Murray State also recorded four total blocks and four service aces in the match.
Murray State returns to action Saturday with a pair of matches, facing The Citadel at 10:30 a.m. CT before closing the Troy Classic against Northwestern State at 3:30 p.m.
