Racer Hoopalooza 2013

The greatest tradition in the Ohio Valley Conference was recalled (Aug. 14-15, 2013) when Murray State men's basketball held the first Racer Hooplalooza fundraiser at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. Former coach Mark Gottfried, about to begin his third season at North Carolina State, was this year's honoree at Racer Hooplalooza.
Gottfried coached the Racers to 68 wins in three seasons (from 1995-98) including two trips to the NCAA Tournament. Under Gottfried's guidance, MSU won a then school-record 29 games in 1997-98 and Gottfried was named OVC Coach of the Year. Returning to his alma mater Alabama for the next 11 seasons, Gottfried led the Crimson Tide to a No. 1 national ranking and was named 2002 SEC Coach of the Year. Gottfried has restored NC State back to prominence and has racked up 48 wins which is second all-time at NCSU for the first two seasons.
Former Racer players Jeff Martin, Sr., Popeye Jones, DT Mayes and Isaiah Canaan were featured speakers as well as Racer Insider owner Lindy Suiter and former Assistant AD Darron Boatright.
A video documenting Gottfried's tenure at MSU and a video highlighting the Racer tradition was produced by Ben Tidwell.
Voice of the Racers Neal Bradley ended the evening with a toast to Coach Gottfried and the MSU program that has meant so much for so many.
The Racer Hoopalooza headed to the golf course the next morning for a six-man scramble at Murray Country Club. There were pick up games in the afternoon at the CFSB Center.
