Andy Morgan is in his third season at Murray State and serves as the team’s offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.
In 2016, Morgan helped lead a Racers offense that ranked in the top-50 nationally in eight statistical categories. MSU ranked seventh in the country in doubles per game (2.36), 17th in on-base percentage (.401), 19th in runs per game (7.4), 27th in team batting average (.304), 28th in slugging percentage (.458), 33rd in walks (271), 36th in total runs (414) and 44th in hits (604).
Morgan also coached two First Team All-OVC members (Tyler Lawrence and Ramsey Scott) and a Second Team (Adam Bauer) honoree in 2016.
Morgan joined the Racers after spending the 2012-14 seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northwestern State. In his three seasons with the Demons, Morgan helped NSU to the largest turnaround in school and Southland Conference history.
Upon his arrival, Morgan put together a recruiting class that was ranked in the top 75 nationally by Baseball America. The class was also labeled as a notable class in the lower central region. His second recruiting class featured four of the top 30 players from the state of Louisiana.
The results also came on the field as the Demons went 33-26 overall and 19-11 in SLC play in 2014. The 17-win improvement from the 2013 season established a new school record, while the 14-win improvement in conference play set a new SLC record.
Morgan joined the staff at NSU after serving as the head coach at Coffeyville Community College for three seasons. In his three seasons as a head coach, Morgan helped develop 20 players that moved on to four-year institutions, six players that earned postseason awards and one NJCAA All-American.
After leading the Ravens to 15 conference wins and the Region 6 playoffs his first season, Morgan led CCC to a 21-15 record and was honored as the 2010 Jayhawk East Coach of the Year. The 29 victories established a new school record for wins in a season. The team also set 35 team and individual records.
Morgan’s third season saw him lead the Ravens to a 27-30 record and a second place finish at the Liberal Super Regional. He led the Ravens to 56 victories in his last two seasons, the most over any two-year span in program history.
Prior to taking over as head coach, Morgan spent two seasons as an assistant at CCC.
Morgan has a proven track record of developing players. During a four year span with the Kansas City Sluggers, a nationally known high school baseball academy, Morgan saw 11 players selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, 14 of his players sign with Division I programs, and seven others with Division II teams.
In the summers of 2008 and 2010, Morgan coached for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League and worked on a daily basis with some of the best amateur players in the country while helping direct the Commodores to a second place finish in the West Division and a second straight appearance in the league playoffs.
Morgan preceded his coaching success with accomplishments of his own as a player. At Cowley County Community College, Morgan played the middle infield for the 2001 Jayhawk East and Region VI Champions that finished third in the nation at the Junior College World Series.
Following his time at Cowley, Morgan was a two time All–Conference selection and team captain at Park University in Parkville, Missouri, where he graduated from in bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing.
Originally from Manhattan, Kansas, Morgan was a 2000 graduate of Manhattan High School. He is married to Jennifer Lynn (Brown) of Harrah, Okla. They have one child, Hannah.
