Ryan Hanson

Ryan Hanson enters his first season as an assistant coach at Murray State. Hanson will oversee the Breds catchers, as well as assist in hitting and serve as the first-base coach.
Hanson comes to MSU after a successful season at Iowa Wesleyan. He serves as the team’s hitting coach and guided the Tigers to a .314 regular-season average in capturing the regular season and tournament championships for the first time in school history.
The Tigers advanced to the NAIA Tournament where they went 2-2, including winning their first game against Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Prior to his one season at IWC, Hanson served two years as a graduate assistant at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif.
Hanson served as the team’s catching and first-base coach, while working on his master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration.
During the summer, Hanson served as the head coach for the Dubuque Hawks of the River Valley League, a collegiate summer league.
Hanson began his coaching career as the hitting coach at Orange Coast College in 2005, helping the team advance to the state tournament in Fresno, Calif.
Hanson began his collegiate career as a quarterback and long snapper at UNLV. After redshirting in 1999, Hanson was the starting long snapper on the Rebels 2000 Las Vegas Bowl championship, earning academic all-conference accolades.
Hanson made the decsion to concentrate on baseball and transferred to Orange Coast College. He earned all-league honors before receiving a scholarship to San Francisco.
In his first season with the Dons, Hanson hit .329 and earned honorable mention all-West Coast Conference honors. He was also nominated for the Johnny Bench Award.
Hanson faced another challenge his senior season as Tommy John surgery cut his season short.
A native of Los Alamitos, Calif., Hanson was a prep standout at Los Alamitos High School.
As a senior, Hanson was named the Orange County Register Offensive Player of the Year and SuperPrep all-region after throwing for 3,082 yards and 31 touchdowns, with only three interceptions.
Hanson graduated from USF in 2004 with a degree in history.
After graduation, Hanson played professionally for the Edmonton Cracker-Cats in the Northern League, as well as with the Florence Freedom and the Southern Illinois Miners in the Frontier League.
