Chris Burnette enters his first season as the safeties coach at Murray State.
Burnette came to MSU after spending the 2010 season as the defensive quality control coach at Tulane.
The Green Wave finished the season with a 4-8 record, tieing for the most wins over the past six years. The season included road victories at Rutgers and UTEP, and a 54-49 shootout victory over conference rival Rice.
The teams was led by the defense as they led Conference USA by allowing just 194.6 yards a game through the air. The unit also ranked fifth in the conference in total defense at 390.1 yards per contest.
Burnette joined the coaching profession after concluding his four-year playing career at Georgia Southern. He was a two-year letterwinner for Eagles, seeing time at quarterback, wide receiver and on special teams.
Burnette graduated from GSU in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in general studies.
