- Chris Cunningham enters his third season as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers at Murray State in 2022
- As special team coordinator, helped kicker Aaron Baum and return specialist Malik Honeycutt to 2021 All-OVC honors
- In his first season in 2020, coached Scotty Humpich to All-OVC first team honors
Before MSU
- Cunningham comes to Murray State after spending two seasons at Virginia-Wise, where he served as defensive coordinator in 2019 and linebackers coach in 2018
- During those two seasons, Cavalier linebackers tallied over 200 tackles, including more than 40 behind the line of scrimmage
- As a defensive unit, UVa.-Wise ranked in the top 30 nationally in seven different categories, including third in tackles-for-loss
- At Virginia-Wise, mentored a trio of all-conference players in linebacker Austin Hicks, defensive back Marcus Tarrer and linebacker Donavan Montague.
- From 2015-2017, Cunningham was special teams coordinator and defensive line coach at Lawrence University
- Cunningham worked at the Pikeville for the 2014 season as linebackers coach and assistant special teams coach, while also serving as an academic coordinator
- At UPike, mentored All-Mid-South conference linebacker John-Dudley Hilton
- Cunningham also served two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky
- At EKU, worked with a pair of All-OVC defensive backs in Brandon Stanley and Brooklyn Fox
- Prior to his graduate assistant role with the Colonels, he worked as a student assistant at EKU during the 2011 OVC championship season

- Cunningham graduated from Eastern Kentucky in 2012
- Majored in sport management
- At EKU, Cunningham played defensive end and linebacker for the Colonels and helped them win an Ohio Valley Conference championship
- Cunningham also received a master’s degree in sports management from EKU
- Native of Miami, Florida
- Cunningham and his wife, Nicole, married in 2016 and have two daughters, Larkyn and Kendall and a son, Camden.
