Gary George enters his first season as the defensive quality control and outside linebackers coach at Murray State.
George joins the Racers after spending the previous three seasons serving as the defensive backs coach and video coordinator at Hartnell College.
In his three seasons on the plains, George helped the Panthers to a pair of Southern Divisional Championship-Living Breath Foundation Bowl championships. He also helped guide the Panthers to three-straight Coast Conference championships.
HC led the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) in pass defense in back-to-back seasons. In 2013, the Panthers set a single -game record by allowing just 67 passing yards.
In 2012, the Panthers led the country in pass defense, allowing just 135.8 yards per game. The defense was anchored by cornerback Carroll Washington, who was rated as the #1 junior college cornerback prospect by 247Sports. Â
George coached eight guys in his three years at HC that signed to play at four-year colleges, five signing with FBS programs.
Prior to his time at Hartnell, George spent two years as the defensive coordinator for the Broward County Bears semi-pro team.
He spent the 2011 season as the defensive coordinator at Performance Arts Christian Academy.
George began his coaching career at Coconut Creek High School in 2007, serving as the defensive backs coach and junior varsity head coach.
He began his collegiate career as a defensive back at Bethune-Cookman, before transferring to Webber International.
George graduated from Webber International with bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice (2005) and sports management (2006). He received his master’s in sports management from American Public University in 2011, and is currently working on a second master’s in sport and health sciences.
