Harland Bower enters his first season as the assistant football strength and conditioning coach at Murray State.
Bower came to MSU after spending the 2010 season as the defensive backs coach at Georgia Military College. While with the Bulldogs, he also served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
He began his collegiate career at Central Michigan, where he redshirted his freshman year.
Bower then transferred to Georgia Southern and played his final three seasons under Chris Hatcher.
He appeared in seven games in his first year with the Eagles, and posted a career-best 10 tackles against Central Connecticut State.
As a sophomore, Bower moved into the starting lineup and ranked sixth on the team in tackles. He registered five tackles against Appalachian State, helping to end the Mountaineers 30-game home winning streak.
After an injury slowed him during his junior campaign, Bower returned for his senior season to finish with 21 tackle, one sack and two quarterback hurries.
Bower was a prep standout at East Ridge High School, where he holds the distinction of being the first ERHS athlete to sign with a Division I program.
He was a four-year starter for the Knights, finishing his career with a school-record 340 tackles.
As a senior, Bower earned all-conference honors by registering 110 tackles and helping the Knights to the district championship.
Bower received his bachelor’s degree in general studies, with a minor in criminal justice, from Georgia Southern in 2009.
