Kenny Parker enters his first season as the defensive line coach on Chris Hatcher’s staff at Murray State.
Parker comes to MSU after spending the previous 10 seasons as a player or coach at Florida, where he was a part of three SEC Championships and two National Championships.
In his most recent role, Parker served as a graduate assistant defensive line coach and assistant director of football camps during the 2009 season.
Prior to his time as a GA, Parker served two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Gators. Parker assisted in the strength, speed and conditioning for football and track. He also developed strength and conditioning programs for players and assisted in the nutritional development of players.
Parker served as a physical education teacher and defensive line coach at Taylor County High School in 2006-07.
After completing his eligibility, Parker joined the Gator coaching staff as an assistant defensive line coach. He helped prepare the playbook and other gameday materials, while also assisting the defensive line with on-field conditioning and techniques.
Parker first arrived on the Gainesville campus in the Fall of 2000 as a freshman defensive tackle. He appeared in five games and recorded five tackles in helping the Gators capture the SEC Championship.
He participated in just three plays during the 2001 season before a back injury forced him to miss the rest of the season and the 2002 season.
Parker returned to the field in 2003 and finished the campaign with 37 tackles, including 23 solo stops. He recorded a career-best seven tackles againstVanderbilt, South Carolina and Florida State.
He appeared in 11 games in 2004 and recorded his first sack against Middle Tennessee.
Parker played his prep ball at Northside (Ga.) High School, where he garnered All-America accolades by the USA Today. He was rated as one of the nation’s top 20 defensive tackles by Rivals.com.
He recorded 97 tackles as a senior and 95 as a junior, and was twice named a first-team all-state selection. He was also selected to play in the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game as a senior.
Parker graduated from Florida in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a minor in education.
He and his wife, Melissa, reside in Murray.
