- Sherman comes to Murray State after spending the 2019 season as the offensive quality control coach at Toledo
- In the spring of 2020, Sherman as promoted to Director of Player Development at Toledo
- From 2015-2018, Sherman served as the wide receivers coach at Pittsburgh, where he coached the school's all-time leading receiver Tyler Boyd
- Prior to Pitt, Sherman spent two seasons (2013-14) at Purdue working with the receivers
- Sherman spent the 2000-2013 seasons working in the ACC serving as the receivers coach at Wake Forest from 2000-2005 and also at Virginia Tech from 2006-2013
- While at Virginia Tech, Sherman developed the program's top two all-time receivers, Jarrett Boykin and Danny Coale, and helped lead the Hokies top six straight bowl games and top 20 finishes, four BCS bowl appearances and three ACC titles
- In the summer of 2004, Sherman briefly stepped away from collegiate game to serve as an NFL Minority Intern with the Denver Broncos
- Before his time in Blacksburg, Sherman spent the 1997, 1998 and 1999 seasons working with the receivers and slot backs at Ohio
- In 1993, Sherman began a three-year stint at VMI coaching the running backs, followed by coaching the receivers in 1994 before finally coaching the quarterbacks, receivers and serving as the pass game coordinator in 1995
- Sherman began his coaching career in 1992 at Methodist, where he worked with the receivers
- Spent one season as a student assistant in 1991 at his alma mater, Ferrum

- Sherman graduated from Ferrum in 1992 with a B.S. in recreation and leisure
- Played at Ferrum from 1988-90
- Helped lead Panthers to back-to-back South Region championships and NCAA Division III semifinal appearances in 1988 and 1999
- Was inducted into Ferrum's Hall of Fame in 20212.
