- Spent 2019 season at DII Oklahoma Baptist, where he coached the corner backs
- While at OBU, Watkins helped the Bison their best record of DII era at 7-4
- Coached defensive backs at Black Hills State during the 2018 season
- Played five season at DII Minot State where he helped Beavers achieve program's best win totals of DII era record in 2016 and 2017
- Graduated from Minot State in 2018 with a degree in Physical Education
- Graduated from Black Hills State in 2020 with a Master's in strategic leadership
