Alysiah Bond
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Lady Racer head coach Joi Felton announced the addition of assistant coach Alysiah Bond (first name pron.: ah-LIE-shah) to the Murray State coaching staff on May 19, 2006.
Bond comes to Murray State from Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee State, where she spent two seasons on the Lady Tiger staff.
She also served as the director of basketball operations for the Tennessee Lady Vols for three seasons.
“I’m excited about the addition of Coach Bond,” Felton said. “She has an infectious personality and will bring a tremendous amount of energy to our program.”
Bond also has a background in sports broadcasting, having been on staff with WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio, prior to her stint at TSU, as well as at WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Tenn., both NBC affiliates.
At those stations, she served as a sports anchor, reporter and producer, covering her alma mater, Ohio State, in Columbus and the Lady Vols in Knoxville.
She has also been the director of special programs with USA Basketball — where she worked with marketing, licensing and corporate sponsorship — and served an internship at the Big Ten Conference.
As an assistant coach at Tennessee State, Bond worked with the guards as well as handling scouting, recruiting and travel needs.
Bond was a four-year point guard at Ohio State, where she was a member of the 1993 team that advanced to the NCAA championship game. She graduated in 1995 with a degree in marketing.
Bond first met Felton during her tenure in Knoxville, when Felton was an assistant at Florida.
“She has been a friend of mine whom I respect tremendously,” Bond said of Felton. “She is very serious about success and has a vision for this program. It was easy to join with her and support that vision. She is committed to giving me an opportunity to grow that was very attractive to me. It was an opportunity that I couldn’t let get by.”
Bond is a native Los Angeles, Calif., but finished high school in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, the same hometown as current Lady Racer forward Joi Scott.
“Everyone has made me feel welcome here,” Bond said. “They have been friendly and helpful, and made me feel comfortable from the first time that I met them.
“I think this team has everything in place to be an OVC champion, and I’m excited to be a part of that. I want to give everything that I have to help bring a championship to Murray.”
Felton said Bond’s experiences as a player and coach make her a good fit to the MSU program.
“Her playing experience along with her coaching experience will give her instant credibility with our players,” Felton said.
“She has great knowledge of the game and I have no doubt that she will be able to transfer that into teaching our student-athletes.”
