Daphne Mitchell enters her third season as an assistant coach for the Murray State women's basketball team.
She helped coach Murray State's third OVC Freshman of the Year, Ke'Shunan James, who also earned a Madness Mid-Major of the Week award on Feb. 8.Â
Mitchell, a native of East Point, Ga., comes to Murray after spending last season as an assistant at Jacksonville. While Mitchell may be new to MSU, she is no stranger to the OVC, having helped lead Tennessee Tech to a Women’s Basketball Invitational appearance during the 2011-12 season.
Prior to coaching, Mitchell enjoyed a successful career as a player at Georgia Tech. During her time as a Yellow Jacket, she played in 108 career games form 2004-08 and in 2006, Mitchell was honored by the ACC for her work in the Atlanta community with the Top Six for Service award.
After graduating Georgia Tech in 2008 with a bachelor’s in business management, Mitchell saw the world as a professional, playing for teams on two different continents in four different countries. She has played for clubs in Ecuador, Finland, Spain and most recently for Clube Desportivo Torres Novas in Portugal.
