After completing her playing career, Murray State all-time leading scorer and rebounder Katelyn Young will join the coaching staff
Katelyn Young, the all-time leading scorer and rebounder for Murray State women's basketball, is set to rejoin the program as an assistant coach for the 2025-26 season.
After finishing her playing career with the Racers in their historic 2024-25 season, Young joined the Knox Raiders of the NBL1 in Melbourne, Australia. With the Raiders, Young helped the side win the NBL National Championship, scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds in the final.Â
"We are beyond excited to welcome back one of the greatest players in our program's history," said Head Coach Rechelle Turner. "Having our all-time leading scorer , whose jersey hangs in the rafters and who has excelled at the professional level, return as an assistant coach to mentor and develop our post players is truly special. She embodies what it means to be a Racer, and we can't wait to see the impact she'll make on our team and our future."
During her collegiate career, the Oakwood, Illinois native finished as the 14th highest scorer in Division I history with 3,029 career points. Young became just the second student-athlete in Murray State history with more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds along with Popeye Jones. A five-time all-conference performer, Young finished her Murray State career averaging 19.5 points and 7.8 rebounds and helped lead MSU to a Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament championship in 2025.
