The Lady Racer staff welcomes Kevin Waters this season.
Waters comes to Murray State after a flourishing career that has taken him from the high school level to college and on to professional basketball in the World Basketball Association.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Kevin Waters will be a great addition to Lady Racer basketball,” said head coach Joi Felton. “He has a very good knowledge of the game and is someone who understands what it takes to be successful.”
A graduate of Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Fla., Waters said it didn’t take long to say yes when Murray State came calling.
“I’m very excited about coming to Murray State,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to work with a great coach like Joi and to experience coaching at the Division I level.
“I’d say my coaching strength is in player development and recruiting. My coaching experience taught me that you first have to find talented players that fit into your program, but then, the work is just beginning. Then, you have to develop the talent. I’m looking forward to working with the MSU program.”
Waters will be involved with recruiting and coaching the MSU post players.
“Kevin is a good motivator and has the type of personality that will make him a strong recruiter,” Felton said. “I look forward to him bringing in new ideas and helping our program advance to a higher level.”
Waters served as the first boys’ basketball coach at Newberry High School in Gainesville, Fla., in 1986, then moved to Lofton High School in Gainesville in 1998.
From 1999 to 2001, he was an assistant men’s coach at his alma mater, Edward Waters College. Last season, he coached as a volunteer assistant at Kennesaw State. This spring, Waters was the director of player personnel for the Gainesville (Ga.) Knights of the World Basketball Association.
Waters and his wife, Chantell, reside in Murray.
