Former Tennessee Tech standout Misty Garrett begins her second season as an assistant coach with the Lady Racer program.
Garrett came to Murray State after serving two years as a graduate assistant coach with the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball program. At Tech, she was in charge of administrative duties and helped with recruiting, individual workouts and on-the-floor coaching.
As a player, Garrett ranks ninth on TTU’s career free-throw percentage list (.747). She earned All-Ohio Valley Conference Second Team honors in 2000-01 and was named to the All-OVC Tournament Team that same year.
Tennessee Tech won or shared the OVC titles in each of her four years there. The Golden Eaglettes went 58-10 (.853) in OVC play in her four seasons, winning the 2000 and 2001 regular-season titles outright and sharing the 1999 and 2002 crowns. TTU won the OVC Tournament in 1999 and 2000, earning berths in the NCAA Tournament in those seasons and facing Old Dominion and Texas Tech, respectively, on their home courts.
“I am very excited about Misty being on our staff,” head coach Joi Felton said after adding Garrett to her staff. “She has a wealth of knowledge about the OVC, and her playing experience speaks for itself.”
Garrett, a native of Livingston, Tenn., earned her bachelor of science degree in health and physical education from Tennessee Tech in December 2002. She earned her master’s degree in instructional leadership from TTU last May.
“Murray State is a great place to play basketball,” Garrett said. “The Lady Racer program has a very bright future under the direction of Coach Felton.”
