Wirth enters his first season as the Racers’ throws coach. Wirth comes to Murray State from Illinois State University where he was a 2012 graduate with a degree in recreation management. At Illinois State Wirth became the first walk-on athlete in school history to become a team captain in 2012. In his senior season at Illinois State Wirth places 15th at the Missouri Valley Indoor Championships in the shot put with a throw of 49-01.50. During the outdoor season he placed eighth in the discus at the outdoor championships with a toss of 150-05.
In his junior year, Wirth placed seventh in the shot put at the MVC Outdoor Championships with a throw of 51-01.75. The native of Mahomet, Ill., recorded a personal-best mark in the discus with a throw of 153-07. His PR in the shot put was 51-02.75 and his mark in the weight throw was 45-04.25.
“We have the talent and the ability. I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this team,” said Wirth. “I'm very excited to see our girls succeed this year and go to conference with the mentality that we will dominate it.”
