Dr. Richard Blalock

At Murray State

Since 1981, Dr. Richard Blalock has been at the forefront of sports medicine at Murray State and has served hundreds of Racer student-athletes with uncommon care and knowledge.
Is in his 44th year as Team Physician and Director of Medical Services for the Racers in the 2025-26 school year.

Before MSU

While completing his residency in Memphis, was the protegee of the late Dr. Hal Houston, who was team doctor 42 years until his death in 2010.
Blalock is very proud of his association with Dr. Houston and the many great coaches and players that he has worked with at MSU.
Blalock's first OVC Championship as team doctor at Murray State was the Racers' football title under Coach Mike Gottfried in 1979.

Personal

Specializes in internal medicine, Dr. Blalock has his own practice in Murray.
In 2017, Dr. Blalock welcomed his son, Dr. Richard Blalock II, on board as the Racers Team Orthopedic Physician.
Dr. Blalock has also received the Golden Horseshoe Award at Murray State University.
In 2016, he was inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame into the Hall of Distinction category.
His love for athletics is a benefit to the student-athletes at Murray State as he continues to carry on a tradition of fine medical care.
