- Was assistant head coach at Chipola College in 2020-21 with a program that made it to the NJCAA DI Final Four.
- In 2019-20, was assistant coach with the NBA G-League's Grand Rapids Drive.
- Coached at Grand Valley State in 2018-19 coaching at his alma mater.
- Served for four seasons at Auburn as Video Coordinator and Special Assistant to the Head Coach.

- A graduate of Grand Valley State in 2008, VerHulst earned his master's degree from the University of Memphis in 2012.
