Cutchin was head football coach of the Racers from 1925 until 1930, head basketball coach form 1926 until 1941, head baseball coach from 1926 until 1941, head baseball coach from 1925 until 1951, and athletic director from 1925 until 1940.
His football record was 36-11-4, and two of his teams were undefeated. His 1926 team was 6-0-1 and his 1928 team was 9-0-1.
His basketball teams won 253 games and lost 91. Under his tenure the 1930 team was Mississippi Valley Conference champion, the 1936 team Southern Intercollegiate champion, and the 1941 team Kentucky Intercollegiate champion. The 1941 team finished second in the NAIA Tournament and the 1943 team finished third. His best seasons were 19-2 in 1930, 17-3 in 1932, 23-2 in 1936, 22-3 in 1937, 27-4 in 1938, and 25-5 in 1941.
