From 1983-85, Lee McCormick played football for MSU, where he began his career as a walk-on and left as the school’s all-time leading receiver.
Recruited from his home town of Terre Haute, Ind. By former Racer head coach Frank Beamer, McCormick holds career records for receptions (122) and receiving yards (1,837). He also distinguished himself by earning All-American and All-Ohio Valley Conference honors his senior year.
“It was a lot of hard work being a walk-on because I had to prove myself,” McCormick said. “I was new to the system but I adjusted pretty fast.”
McCormick attended a few NFL training camps after graduating in 1986 with a degree in safety engineering, and he also played some arena football.
Today he resides in Texas where he is a loss prevention consultant with Texas Workers Compensation Insurance Fund.
“I miss the guys I played with, but I still talk to some of them,” he said.
McCormick was surprised when he found out he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” he said. “I’ll realize what the honor means when I come to Murray.” (The Murray State News, October 4, 1996, Staff Report)
