Burkeen Leads The Racers At MSU's OVC Preview Meet

Senior Jeremy Burkeen led the Murray State men's cross country team with a fifth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Preview Meet at the Futures Golf Club in Puryear, Tenn.
MSU earned a third-place team finish with 47 points behind Eastern Illinois in first with 32 points and Southeast Missouri State in second with 41 points.
Burkeen, a native of Benton, Ky., covered the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 12 seconds for his second top-5 finish in 2003. EIU's Dan Strackeljahn won the individual title with a time of 25:51.
MSU's Brandon Lancaster, a junior from Central City, Ky., was seventh with a time of 26:31.0, followed by freshman Ryan Stichter in eighth with a 26:31.5.
Junior Tim Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.) was 12th with a 26:54, followed by freshman Patrick Hammond (Lexington, Ky.) in 15th with a 29:11 and sophomore Michael Sullivan (Princeton, Ky.) in 16th with a 30:24.
Up next, Murray State will compete in the SEMO Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., before hosting the OVC Championships two weeks later.
