Racers stretch record win streak to 11 with seventh straight shutout, 3-0 at TSU

The Murray State women's volleyball team extended its school-record win streak to 11 matches and picked up its seventh straight shutout with a 3-0 win tonight at Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee State, 31-29, 30-18, 30-21.
The Racers (11-4, 6-0 OVC) have won 29 of their last 30 games and have shut out its last seven OVC opponents in regular-season play. MSU has yet to lose a game to conference competition thus far this season.
Tennessee State (4-12, 0-5 OVC) made it tough in the opening game, hitting .341, but Murray State was able to use its .432 hitting to eke past the host Lady Tigers in Game 1.
Sophomore outside hitter Paige Sun got her 13th double-double in 15 matches this season, smashing a match-high 19 kills and repelling a team-high 11 digs. She also had a match-high four blocks for the Racers and hit for a .457 attack percentage.
Junior outside hitter Kimberly Bunnage added 12 kills on .345 hitting for MSU, while sophomore setter Nikki Wong came within a kill and a dig of her first triple-double of the season with nine kills, a match-high 33 assists and nine digs.
Junior defensive specialist Casandra Ersel added nine digs to the Racer defense, while sophomore middle blocker Abbi Gui had eight.
Tennessee State was paced by 10 kills apiece from Jennifer Corral and Thereza Wright. Catherine Armwood had a match-high 13 digs, while Krystie Kaukola handed out 28 assists.
Murray State has a week off before returning home to face regional rival Southern Illinois on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. The MSU athletics department is sponsoring "Break the Record Night" in an attempt to set a new volleyball attendance record at Racer Arena. Contests and prizes will be a part of the fun planned for the evening.
