MSU OVC Preview Meet This Saturday

The Murray State men's and women's cross country teams will host the Ohio Valley Conference Preview meet on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Futures Golf Club in Puryear, Tenn., in preparation for the OVC Championships in November.
The OVC Preview will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) event, followed by the men's 8-kilometer (5-mile) event at 10:45 a.m. Men's and women's teams from Eastern Illinois, Southeast Missouri State and Tennessee State will join the MSU squads at the event and admission is free.
"We're really looking forward to this meet because it'll serve as a great dress rehearsal for our staff and athletes before the OVC meet in November," said MSU second-year cross country head coach Norbert Elliott. "It should be a good chance for us to get a feel for how things will go when all 11 OVC teams get together here in a few weeks."
The OVC Championships are set for Saturday, Nov. 1, at Futures, and while the Preview will include only four league schools, Elliott believes the event will be a very good experience for his squad.
"It's a small group of teams, but it'll be a very challenging meet," Elliott said. "There aren't a lot of hills, so I think the course should be pretty fast. Overall, I hope we can take advantage of the chance to run a competitive race on the course and make a good showing."
This is the second of three meets hosted by MSU in 2003, with the first coming on Sept. 27, when the Racers and Lady Racers each earned first-place finishes at the MSU Invitational.
