Racers win fifth straight OVC match with 3-0 decision over Tennessee State

The Murray State women's volleyball team claimed its fifth straight win with dispatch, taking care of visiting Tennessee State 30-18, 30-15, 30-16 in Ohio Valley Conference play tonight.
Everybody played for the Racers (13-11, 7-7 OVC), with MSU hitting .404 with only eight errors in 114 attacks.
Junior outside hitter Kimberly Bunnage led the offense for Murray State, pounding a match-high 15 kills, making only two errors in 28 attacks for an attack percentage of .464. Bunnage also had 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the season, and served up a co-match-high two aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Paige Sun had 14 kills for MSU, with only one error in 26 attacks for a percentage of .500.
Freshman outside hitter Holly Jansen had six hits with no errors in eight attacks for a .750 attack percentage, while sophomore setter Nikki Wong had seven kills and one error in 14 attacks for a .429 percentage.
Wong also handed out a match-high 39 assists and had 12 digs, celebrating her birthday with her 11th double-double of the season.
Junior defensive specialist Casandra Ersel paced the Racer defense with a team-high 14 digs, while freshman middle blocker Katie Kemezys had a season-high-tying six blocks. Murray State had 10 blocks in the three-game match.
Junior middle blocker Danielle Sutterer tied her season-high with six kills for Murray State.
Tennessee State (7-22, 1-12 OVC) was paced by nine kills from Jennifer Corral and eight by Thereza Wright. Catherine Armwood had a match-high 17 digs, while Corral had 14 digs to go with two aces. Shelby Myers handed out 24 assists.
"Everybody played, and everybody did a good job," said MSU head coach David Schwepker. "Actually, this team is really, really focused, more now than they have been all season long. This is what we're trying to do: we want to stay focused now, during this time.
"We did a great job; we played hard from beginning to end, and that's what we've got to do."
Murray State closes out its regular-season schedule with home matches against Southeast Missouri on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. and Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.
