Junior defensive specialist Casandra Ersel was named to represent the Ohio Valley Conference as a member of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Ersel, a member of the Murray State volleyball team, was selected by the NCAA Management Council to represent the OVC from a pool of three nominees. Each conference has a representative to the SAAC who can serve for up to two years.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee designates two members to participate in each meeting of the Management Council. Different committee members may be selected for different Council meetings.
The SAAC receives information about NCAA divisional activities and legislation, reviews and reacts to topics referred to it by other NCAA groups and may even effect legislation pertinent to student-athletes.
Each school has a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee made up of representatives from each sport. Each conference has its committee, which is made up of representatives from each member school. The purpose of SAACs is to discuss the issues relevant to student-athletes.
"This committee, at the NCAA level, has several meetings and conference calls all year, and it does a lot, even proposing legislation," said Margaret Simmons, MSU assistant director of athletics for academics. "This is a great honor for Casandra, to represent the OVC."
"We are very pleased and proud for her," said MSU volleyball head coach David Schwepker. "It's a great honor not only for her, but for our program as a whole. She is well deserving of this acknowledgement."
