Racers declared BGSU Invitational champion; open OVC slate with UTM

The Murray State women's volleyball team was declared the champion of the Bowling Green State Invitational, played last weekend at Bowling Green, Ohio, by virtue of the tie-breaker, matching game win percentages of the tied teams.
The Racers (2-4, 0-0 OVC) tied with Iowa State and tournament host Bowling Green State with tournament records of 2-1, with MSU beating Bowling Green State 3-0 and West Virginia 3-2 and falling to Iowa State 3-2. BGSU beat Iowa State 3-2 and West Virginia 3-0 and fell to MSU 3-0, while Iowa State beat Murray State 3-2 and West Virginia 3-0 and lost to BGSU 3-2.
Murray State won five games and lost three against Iowa State and BGSU for a game win percentage of .625. Iowa State won five games and lost five games for a win percentage of .500, while Bowling Green State won three games and lost five for a win percentage of .375.
Sophomore outside hitter Paige Sun was named the tournament MVP, averaging 4.31 kills per game with an attack percentage of .312. She also repelled 3.85 digs per game and had 0.31 blocks and 0.31 aces per game.
Murray State now prepares to open its home and Ohio Valley Conference schedule with a match against defending OVC champion Tennessee-Martin (1-10, 0-0 OVC). The match is set to begin in Racer Arena tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7 p.m.
