The Murray State men's and women's cross country teams will host the first of three home meets in 2003, the MSU Invitational, on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the university farm near the West Kentucky Expo Center on Chestnut Street.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's 5-kilometer (3-mile) event, followed the men's 8-kilometer (5-mile) event at 10:45 a.m. Teams participating in the meet include MSU and fellow Ohio Valley Conference members Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.
"We're excited to be at home this week because our first three meets of the year were on the road," said second-year MSU cross country/track and field head coach Norbert Elliott. "Our kids are excited to have a chance to run in front of their friends and families, and it should be a good meet."
MSU will also host the OVC Championship Preview on Saturday, Oct. 11, and the OVC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, with both meets being held at the Futures Golf Club in Puryear, Tenn.
"Obviously, we're looking forward to hosting the OVC championships and preview meet," Elliott said. "We should have a home-course advantage because our kids should be a little more familiar with the surroundings and the course. It'll be a tough meet for us, but it should help to be able to run on a course that we designed."
