Racers Open Season With Fourth-Place Finish At Memphis Twilight

The Murray State men's cross country team opened the 2003 season with a fourth-place finish at the 12-team Memphis Twilight Classic hosted by the University of Memphis.

Harding University won the team title with 30 points, followed by Mississippi State in second with 55 points, Arkansas-Little Rock in third with 89 points, MSU in fourth with 91 points and Tennessee-Martin was fifth with 155 points.

Junior Brandon Lancaster (Central City, Ky.) led the way for MSU with a 10th-place finish out of 98 runners with a time of 20 minutes, 44.30 seconds on the 4-mile course.

Junior Tim Bradley (St. Louis, Mo.) earned an 18th-place finish with a time of 21:11.20, while freshman Ryan Stichter was 21st with a time of 21:26.80.

Senior Jeremy Burkeen was 23rd with a time of 21:32.90, followed by Patrick Hammond in 43rd with a time of 22:43.10 and sophomore Michael Sullivan in 52nd at 23:14.50.

Up next for MSU is the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
