The Murray State men's basketball team ran out to a 37-35 halftime lead only to see the No. 11 Louisville Cardinals open the second half with one of their signature runs as the Racers dropped a 91-69 road decision today in front of 19,292 fans at Freedom Hall.
The matchup was the first for first-year MSU head coach Mick Cronin against UofL's Rick Pitino after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Cardinals for two years prior to taking over the Racer basketball program.
The loss is the second of the season for MSU (10-2) against a Top 20 team program after suffering a 70-49 setback at then 18th-ranked and unbeaten Pittsburgh on Dec. 20.
The Racers were led by junior forward Kelvin Brown's 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while junior guard Adam Chiles added 13 points and a team-high four assists.
Senior forward Cuthbert Victor, who entered the game as the nation's second-leading rebounder at 11.4 per contest, chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Chris Shumate also scored 12 for the Racers.
