The Murray State women's tennis team brought its game to Columbia, S.C., to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate on Oct. 29-31.
Sophomore Christina Hall took fourth place in the C-1 singles bracket, beating Presbyterian's Elise Netzler 6-1, 6-3, before beating Armstrong Atlantic State's Kristen Kelly 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. She fell to South Carolina State's Tiffany Criz 6-4, 6-0, and Georgia State's Simona Foltyn 6-4, 6-0, to take fourth place.
Sophomore Anna Lask placed sixth in the A-1 singles bracket, beating Gabriela Moreira of the College of Charleston 6-4, 1-2 (ret.) before falling to Furman's Mary Neill Hagood 6-2, 6-0. In the playback, Lask beat Elena Volobueva of East Tennessee State 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, but fell to South Carolina's Fallon Koon 6-4, 6-2, to take sixth place.
Junior Tami McQueen took seventh place in the C-2 singles bracket, beating the College of Charleston's Charlotte Wilson 6-0, 6-2, falling to East Carolina's Alex Smith 7-6, 6-1. She lost to Western Carolina's Ashley Harris 6-1, 6-4, but beat the College of Charleston's Jennifer Hancock 6-1, 6-1, to claim seventh place.
Sophomore Rachael Lask won 10th place in the B-2 singles bracket, falling to Pam Roberts of College of Charleston 6-2, 0-6, 6-1, before beating Tiffany Herd of Charleston Southern 6-0, 6-0 and ETSU's Sandie Knight 6-4, 6-3, and falling to Furman's Bonnie Baird 6-1, 6-4, to take 10th place.
Senior Jaclyn Leeper took 11th place in the A-2 singles bracket, falling to College of Charleston's Maxine Capewell 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, before beating Laura Lynn Williams of Wofford 6-0, 2-6, 6-3. Leeper fell to East Carolina's Mireia Gol 6-1, 6-2, but beat Dziyana Nazaruk of Armstrong Atlantic State (withdrew) to claim 11th place.
Senior Jennifer Ward also took 11th place in the B-1 singles bracket. Ward lost to Furman's Lauren Osborne 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, before beating ETSU's Sylwia Ziockowska 6-4, 6-4 and falling to Wofford's Tara Hartness 6-1, 7-6. Ward beat Presbyterian's Lauren Brown 6-2, 6-4 to win 11th place.
Freshman Whitney Robards took 11th place in the C-2 singles bracket, falling to Presbyterian's Lisa Moyer 7-5, 6-1, before beating Tennessee-Martin's Monica Bertram 6-2, 6-3. She lost to South Carolina State's Gisel Brito 7-6, 6-1, but beat ETSU's Jewel Aldea 6-1, 6-4 to take 11th place.
Sophomore Casady Pruitt took 14th place in the B-2 singles bracket, falling to Winthrop's Lakima Bekmetova, then losing to Furman's Bonnie Baird, 4-1 (ret.). Pruitt beat Western Carolina's Katherine Ptak 6-1, 6-2, but fell to Georgia State's Anne Brieholtz 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, to take 14th place.
In doubles play, the team of Lask and Lask took third place in the A-2 doubles bracket, beating Armstrong Atlantic State's Manuela Emmrich and Caroline Grage 9-8 in the eight-game pro set, but falling to South Carolina's Miranda Gutierrez and Fallon Koon 8-5. The Lasks then beat Winthrop's Danielle Moita and Ana Paula Novaes 8-4 to claim third place.
McQueen and Robards teamed to win third place in the C-2 doubles draw, beating Winthrop's Tiffany Beckmon and Tiffany Sherwood by default before falling to South Carolina State's Alexis Panton and Vesna Popac 8-4. THe pair then beat the College of Charleston's Jennifer Hancock and Tiffany Tuckman 8-4 to take third place.
The duo of Hall and Leeper took sixth place in the B-1 doubles bracket, falling to Furman's Shannon Moore and Lauren Osborne 8-6 before beating the College of Charleston's Tiffany Albertz and Tiffany Roberts 8-6. Hall and Leeper lost to Charleston Southern's Tiffany Jaeger and Meryam Tazi 8-6 to claim sixth place.
The pair of Pruitt and Ward won sixth place in the C-1 doubles bracket, falling to Wofford's Tara Hartness and Sarah Shelley by default, but beating the College of Charleston's Tiffany Rowan and Charlotte Wilson 8-3. Pruitt and Ward fell to South Carolina's Grace Blakely and Justine Walsh 8-4 to take sixth place.
The Racers finished their fall schedule with this tournament, and will reopen their schedule on Feb. 9 with a home match against Memphis.
