Racers close out season with 3-0 loss at Eastern Illinois

The Murray State volleyball team closed out its 2004 season tonight with a 3-0 loss at Ohio Valley Conference co-champion Eastern Illinois. Game scores were 30-14, 30-17, 30-21.
The Racers (6-17, 3-13 OVC) weren't able to get their offense going, hitting .083 in the first game and .086 in the second.
In Game 3, MSU took a 14-11 lead, scoring three straight points on kills from sophomore outside hitter Holly Jansen and senior middle blocker Danielle Sutterer and an EIU error. The Panthers (24-5, 15-1 OVC) outscored the Racers 8-2 to take a 19-16 lead, then held on down the stretch for the win.
Sophomore middle blocker Katie Kemezys led Murray State with 12 kills and had a .367 attack percentage with only one error in 30 attacks. Sutterer had a .455 attack percentage with five kills and no errors in 11 attacks.
Sophomore libero Julie Lashley repelled a team-high 11 digs, while senior setter Casandra Ersel handed out 30 assists.
For Eastern Illinois, Erica Gerth had 20 kills, while Megan Kennedy and Kara Sorenson had 11 kills each. Gerth had 12 digs, while Aja Kohlbecker had 11 and Maren Crabtree had 10. Kennedy had four aces for EIU, while Crabtree had 51 assists.
