Hayes leads in every category, but rebounding hurts MSU

The Murray State Lady Racers jumped out to a 23-7 lead midway through the first half, but visiting Arkansas-Little Rock made a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to make it a close game again. The Lady Trojans out-rebounded MSU 24-13 in the second half to help hand the Lady Racers a 60-56 loss.
Sophomore guard Ashley Hayes led Murray State (3-4) in every category with 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals, co-leading the team with three assists. Hayes went 6-for-9 behind the arc, increasing her nation-leading three-pointers average to 3.71 per game.
Senior guard Rebecca Remington added 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field, while freshman guard Shaleea Petty put in 12 points and handed out three assists.
After UALR's run cut the MSU lead to 23-21 with 6:15 left in the first period, a three by Hayes pushed the Lady Racers out to a five-point lead, but the Lady Trojans (5-6) were able to fight back, holding Murray State to a 30-28 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Lady Racers held a 46-42 lead with 8:24 left in regulation when Arkansas-Little Rock went on a 14-3 run over the next six minutes to push out to a 56-49 lead with 2:04 left.
Remington hit two free throws and Hayes put in another three to cut the UALR lead to 56-54 with 1:14 left, but a Jessica Brown lay-up gave the Lady Trojans a 58-54 advantage with 34 seconds left.
Remington hit a lay-up to cut the lead to 58-56 with 18 seconds left, but Andrea Keys hit her free throws with 10 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Alicia Cash led UALR with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Brown added 14 points and eight rebounds. Jocelyn Love scored 11 and had game-highs with four assists and four steals. Lydia Gonzales also had eight rebounds for the Lady Trojans.
