Racers win NCAA Sectional, will host OVC Championships on Feb. 20-22

The Racers fired a match-best 6156 aggregate (smallbore and air rifle scores combined) to lead the 10-team field. Murray State also shot the top score in air rifle, a 1556 out of a possible 1600, and placed third in the smallbore competition with a 4600 out of a possible 4800.
Tennessee Tech placed second in the Sectional with an aggregate of 6151. Kentucky-Blule, which led the smallbore with a 4618, placed third in the aggregate with a 6143.
Jacksonville State was fourth at 6122, followed by Memphis at 6105, Kentucky-White at 6104, Mississippi at 6056 and Tennessee-Martin at 6017. Austin Peay shot in air rifle only and scored a 1450, while Alabama-Birmingham also just in air rifle only and scored a 1306.
Murray State senior Morgan Hicks had the top individual aggregate at 1565 out of a possible 1600, and led smallbore competition with an 1173 out of a possible 1200.
Sophomore Robert Purdy led the air rifle competition with a 394 out of a possible 400, while Hicks was second at 392.
The Racers will host the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Feb. 20-22. Teams competing in that championship include Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Tennessee-Martin and Tennessee Tech.
Murray State will also host the NCAA Championships on March 11-13.
