'Breds drop 7-1 decision to Memphis

The Murray State Thoroughbreds struggled at the plate in its game against Memphis this evening in the Service Academy Classic at Millington, Tenn. MSU could eke out only two hits in the 7-1 loss to the Tigers.
Murray State (1-4) jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning, as left fielder Clint Griggs led off with a walk, then moved to second on the one-out single by first baseman Geoff Kirksey. Second baseman Derrick Newton singled through the right side, scoring Griggs and spotting a 1-0 lead for the 'Breds.
Murray State would be held hitless for the remainder of the game.
Memphis (3-1) scored in the second inning on a solo home run by Ryan Martin, then plated two runs in the fourth inning, two in the seventh and two in the eighth.
On the mound, Jake Ociesa (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out four and walking four in four innings. West Harris came on in the fifth, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking four in 3-2/3 innings. Chandler Shepherd closed out the game, allowing no runs on no hits, striking out one and walking one in 1-1/3 innings.
For Memphis, Derek Hankins (1-1) pitched a gem, allowing one run on two hits, striking out 17 and walking two in seven innings. Nick Bradshaw closed out the game, allowing no runs on no hits, striking out one in two innings.
Murray State will face Air Force tomorrow (Sunday) at 9 a.m. in its final game in the classic.
