Hicks wins NCAA individual air rifle title; team competition to be held tomorrow

The individual championships were a part of the NCAA Rifle Championships, held today (Friday) and tomorrow at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range at MSU's Roy Stewart Stadium. The team competition will be held tomorrow (Saturday), when Alaska-Fairbanks shoots for its sixth straight title.
In the smallbore competition, Rawlings shot an 1179 out of a possible 1200, shooting a perfect 400 in the prone position. Only six points separated the top seven shooters in the smallbore competition.
Joseph Hein of UAF was second at 1178, followed by UAF's Jamie Beyerle at 1177, Jacksonville State's James Hall at 1177, Matt Albright of Navy at 1175, UAF's Karl Olsson at 1173 and Kentucky's Bradley Wheeldon at 1173. Beyerle took third place with more inner tens than Hall, while Olsson won sixth place with more inner tens than Wheeldon.
In the air rifle competition, Rawlings was second with a 396, followed by Beyerle at 395, Ryan Tanoue of Nevada at 395, Hein at 394, Navy's Michael Miller at 391, Nacy's Matt Albright at 391 and Army's Paul Charbonneau at 391. Beyerle took third place with more inner tens than Tanoue, while Miller got sixth place with more inner tens than Albright and Charbonneau.
Murray State is hosting the NCAA Rifle Championships for the eighth time, more than any other school.
