Racers sweep matches in Memphis

The Murray State women's tennis team swept its two matches in Memphis, Tenn., today, beating Southern Illinois 7-0 this morning before beating host Memphis 6-1 this afternoon.
The Racers (9-4) had a four-match win streak snapped at New Orleans on Tuesday, but picked right back up, having won their last three matches and seven of their last eight. MSU will take on Arkansas-Little Rock tomorrow (Saturday) in Memphis at 9 a.m.
Against SIU, Murray State won every match except for No. 2 doubles, but still claimed the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches.
In singles play, Melissa Spencer beat Alejandra Blanco 6-3, 7-6, while Jaclyn Leeper won at No. 2 singles over Maria Blanco 7-6, 6-1, and Anna lask won at No. 3 singles over Jessica Knitter 6-3, 6-3.
Jennifer Ward -- last week's Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week -- won at No. 4 singles over Tana Trapani 5-7, 2-1, with the match being retired in the second set, while Rachael Lask won at No. 5 singles over Zuzana Palovic 6-1, 6-4, and Casady Pruitt won at No. 6 singles over Zoya Honarmand 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles play, the Lasks won at No. 1 doubles over Knitter and Maria Blanco 8-0 in the eight-game pro set, while Pruitt and Ward won at No. 3 doubles over Honarmand and Palovic 8-4. Leeper and Spencer fell at No.2 doubles to Trapani and Alejandra Blanco 8-5.
Against Memphis, the host Tigers won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, while the Racers took the rest.
In singles play, Leeper won at No. 2 singles over Viktoria Gruber 6-2, 6-4, while Anna Lask won at No. 3 singles over Andrea Feichtinger 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 in the tie-breaking game, and Ward won at No. 4 singles over Kristin Noble 6-1, 6-1. Rachael Lask won at No. 5 singles over Alex Tjioe 6-2, 6-2, while Pruitt won at No. 6 singles over Christina Wieser 6-0, 6-1. Spencer fell at No. 1 singles to Marlene Dirnstorfer 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles play, Leeper and Spencer won at No. 2 doubles over Feichtinger and Tjioe 8-1, while Pruitt and Ward won at No. 3 doubles over Noble and Yesica Ares 8-2. The Lasks fell at No. 1 doubles to Dirnstorfer and Gruber 8-6.
After its match against UALR tomorrow, Murray State returns home to pick up its OVC schedule with a Thursday match against Southeast Missouri.
